Apex Predator Spotted Attempting to House-Hunt Without a Tech Salary

A mountain lion was spotted roaming the streets of San Francisco this week, marking what this reporter believes is the first known instance of an apex predator attempting to explore the city without a six-figure salary.

HuffPost reports the animal was seen moving through city streets, prompting the kind of attention usually reserved for a Muni bus running on schedule. No injuries or confrontations were reported.

San Francisco has weathered stranger sightings, but few with claws. This desk notes that mountain lions are native to the surrounding hills and occasionally wander into urban areas in search of prey, space, or, this reporter speculates, more reasonable rent.

Chad, a sea lion who has held down a barking spot at Pier 39 for going on six years, offered his take on the visiting cat. His perspective, as a fellow local wildlife celebrity, carries some weight.

The mountain lion had not returned any calls for comment as of press time. It is presumed to still be evaluating its options.

“Honestly? Respect. That cat came into my city, didn't pay for parking, didn't wait in line at the tourist spots, just walked. I've been thinking about relocating inland myself once the fog gets to be too much — mountain lions clearly know something about avoiding the sea breeze that I don't.” — Chad, Pier 39 sea lion
