Bear Returns To Scene, Apparently Unsatisfied With First Visit
A bear broke into a Las Vegas home not once but twice, video footage shows, a level of commitment to a single address this columnist has not seen since his last landlord dispute.
Details on what, specifically, drew the bear back for a second visit remain limited to the footage itself, though this reporter assumes the answer involves food, curiosity, or the animal equivalent of forgetting it left the stove on.
No injuries were reported in either incident. Las Vegas, a city built entirely on the premise that people will return somewhere they already lost, seems an oddly fitting location for this to happen.
This columnist sought out Duke, a coyote with long-standing professional interest in the local break-in scene, for his take on the bear's technique.
He was not impressed.
Whether the homeowner has bear-proofed the property since remains unclear. This columnist would not bet on it, and neither, apparently, would the bear.
“Twice? Amateur. I've hit the same dumpster four nights running and nobody's put me on the news. Bears get all the credit because they're big and clumsy about it, but the real professionals in this town do their work quiet and don't leave pawprints on the patio furniture.” — Duke, Las Vegas alley coyote
