The Freezer, The Raccoon, and a Question Nobody Asked to Have Answered
Somewhere in America there is, or was, a freezer full of roadkill, and according to a resurfaced report, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the reason it existed.
Per Dangerousminds.net, the account describes Kennedy Jr. once keeping a freezer stocked with roadkill and, in one specific and thoroughly documented instance, removing a dead raccoon's penis bone. The site frames this as a longstanding personal habit rather than an isolated incident.
Webster is obligated, as a journalist, to note that the raccoon baculum is in fact a real anatomical structure prized by a small subculture of collectors, which means this story is somehow both stranger and more normal than it first appears. This reporter has many questions about freezer labeling conventions.
Reached for comment on roadkill culture generally, Old Fred, an opossum with what he describes as 'professional experience' in the field, offered a perspective informed by decades of near-misses.
The freezer's current contents, if it still exists, remain unconfirmed. This column will not be requesting a tour. Spun and done.
“I've played dead on that highway more times than I can count, so believe me, I know a freezer full of roadkill when I smell one. My advice to any human collecting bones from the road: at least wait till we're actually gone.” — Old Fred, roadside opossum
