Exhibit Breach Reported at Milwaukee Zoo, Toddler Named Sole Suspect

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at WISN

A child got into an animal exhibit at the Milwaukee County Zoo this week, prompting the kind of security review usually reserved for larger, more deliberate intruders.

Zoo officials confirmed the incident occurred and said staff responded according to protocol. Details on which exhibit was involved and what followed have not been fully released, though no injuries were reported.

This reporter notes that most zoo breaches covered in this column involve claws, tusks, or at minimum opposable thumbs used with intent. A small unsupervised human clearing a barrier on instinct alone is, frankly, a new category of incident, and this desk suspects paperwork is still being filed.

Coach Dobbins, a local badger who has observed the zoo's perimeter fencing for years from the adjacent woods, agreed to weigh in on what he considers a long-standing structural issue.

The zoo has not announced new barrier upgrades, though this reporter would not bet against it.

“Kid probably just wanted a closer look, can't say I blame him, fences around here have been loose since the Clinton administration. Badgers dig eight feet of tunnel a night without trying, so a toddler getting past a rail ain't exactly breaking news to me.” — Coach Dobbins, local badger
