Bear Burglar Leaves Behind a Full Set of Prints, Some Assembly Required
A bear broke into a home near Shaver Lake and, in a rare act of accidental self-incrimination, left a detailed trail of flour-covered paw prints throughout the residence, according to kmph.com.
The animal reportedly entered the home and disturbed a container of flour during its visit, leaving tracks that documented its route through the property with unusual clarity.
This reporter has covered any number of bear break-ins this year and can confirm most leave considerably less evidence behind. Whether the flour was an intentional decoy or simple bad luck, investigators — and homeowners — now have a complete map of the intruder's movements.
For local color, this reporter reached Fernando, a ground squirrel who claims to have watched the entire episode from the porch railing. His assessment of the bear's technique did not flatter the suspect.
The bear's whereabouts, like most of his kind this season, remain unconfirmed. The flour, presumably, did not survive the encounter.
“Flour prints all over the kitchen? Rookie mistake — real professionals wear socks. I've robbed three picnic baskets this summer alone and left zero forensic evidence, because unlike some bears, I actually respect the craft.” — Fernando, local ground squirrel
