Granite State Under Siege: Local Wildlife Declines To Comment On The Record

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at InformNNY.com

An unidentified animal is on the loose in New Hampshire, and by every account reaching this desk, it is aggressive, camera-shy, and currently winning the news cycle. Video circulating online shows the creature engaging with startled bystanders, a development InformNNY.com was first to report and this columnist has now reviewed twice, out of professional diligence.

As of this writing, authorities have not publicly confirmed the species involved, which has left the field open to speculation ranging from bobcat to fisher cat to, in one unconfirmed tip to this office, 'something with an attitude problem.' No arrests, of course, because you cannot arrest a species you haven't identified.

This is the part of the story where a lesser columnist would panic. This columnist instead notes that New Hampshire has coexisted with irritable wildlife since before it was New Hampshire, and that most 'attacks' in these situations resolve to an animal that simply did not appreciate being approached.

This reporter tracked down Dale, a moose native to the region who has spent considerable time near the reported sighting area, for an eyewitness account. Dale's version of events, delivered with the unbothered gravity only a 1,200-pound animal can manage, differs somewhat from the panicked tone of the human coverage.

Until the species is confirmed, this remains an open file. This columnist's advice to the good people of New Hampshire: give the woods some room, and maybe stop filming it and start walking away. Spun and done.

“I've seen that tape and I got a hunch, but I ain't naming names in the tree line. Folks keep leaving their trash cans unlatched and their dogs off leash, and then act surprised when the woods bites back — a spooked animal defending its patch will always outrun your theories.” — Dale, local moose
