Capybara Remains at Large, Zoo Issues Sighting, Not Apology

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at BBC

Marwell Zoo has confirmed a sighting of Samba, its escaped capybara, in what officials are describing as ongoing search efforts and this reporter is describing as the animal equivalent of a no-show at a scheduled meeting.

The zoo says the sighting confirms Samba remains alive, mobile, and evidently unbothered by the manhunt — or capybarahunt — assembled in his name.

No capture has been reported. The search, per the zoo's own account, continues, which in journalism we call 'developing' and in capybara terms we call 'Tuesday.'

Nigel, a hedgehog working the hedgerows near the zoo perimeter, claims to have seen Samba firsthand and offered this column an eyewitness account of the animal's demeanor.

His read on the situation differs sharply from the official tone of urgency.

Webster notes only that a capybara is, biologically speaking, the largest rodent alive, and evading a British zoo search team while remaining that relaxed is either impressive wildlife instinct or the calmest crime spree on record.

“Spotted him myself near the hedge Tuesday, cool as you like, not a care in the world. Capybaras are basically the world's largest, calmest rodents, and frankly if I had those legs I'd be evading capture too.” — Nigel, local hedgehog
