Bear Conducts Leisurely Foot Patrol of Glendora Retail Corridor
A bear was observed strolling past storefronts in a Glendora strip mall this week, in footage that this reporter reviewed with the gravity such urban wildlife incursions deserve.
ABC7 Los Angeles reports the animal was seen near Alur Studios and other businesses in the shopping center, captured on video moving at what witnesses describe as an unhurried pace. No injuries or property damage were reported, and the bear appears to have departed the premises of its own accord.
This reporter would note that strip malls are not zoned for large carnivores, a regulatory gap that California wildlife officials have presumably filed somewhere between 'urgent' and 'we'll get to it.'
Rico, a coyote who has reportedly worked the same commercial corridor for years, was consulted for local context on the bear's route. His account of events differs from the official record.
The bear was not apprehended, charged, or issued a shopping cart. It simply left, which this reporter considers the most reasonable decision made by anyone involved.
“That bear's an amateur, I've been casing that strip mall since the smoothie place opened. Word of advice: the nail salon locks up at eight but the taco spot leaves a back door propped for the AC.” — Rico, neighborhood coyote
