The Bear Who Just Wanted a Snack

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at Yahoo

A bear was caught on video breaking into a Colorado yard in what investigators, if any were involved, would likely classify as a straightforward late-night snack run.

The footage shows the animal making its way into the property in search of food, consistent with a growing pattern of bears in the region treating suburban yards as an extension of their regular foraging territory. No injuries were reported.

Colorado has produced enough of these incidents this season that this desk is beginning to suspect the bears have simply unionized around the concept of unattended trash and unlocked patio doors.

Dusty, an elk who grazes the surrounding foothills and has watched this exact bear operate for the better part of a season, was willing to share his read on the animal's methods.

The yard's owners are presumably reviewing their storage habits, and the bear, footage suggests, remains entirely unbothered by the attention.

Spun and done.

“Man's lucky it was just chips and salsa the bear wanted, I've seen 'em take a whole cooler off a truck bed before. Bears can smell food from up to two miles away, so really that yard never stood a chance.” — Dusty, Colorado elk
