Breaking and Entering, Ursine Style

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at The Coloradoan

A bear in Estes Park skipped the usual formalities of an open door or unlatched gate and instead came straight through a closed window, injuring the homeowner in the process.

The incident adds a considerably more forceful entry method to the region's growing catalog of bear-related break-ins this season, most of which have involved doors, cars, or trash bins rather than sheer structural disregard. The homeowner's condition following the encounter was not detailed beyond the attack itself.

This desk has covered bears raiding coolers, cars, and fire stations this year alone, but a closed window represents a genuine escalation in both ambition and property damage.

Skeeter, a marmot who keeps a close eye on the wildlife traffic through this particular stretch of the Rockies, was asked to weigh in on the bear's technique.

Local authorities are presumably assessing next steps, and the homeowner is left with a new appreciation for reinforced glass.

Spun and done.

“Bear coming through a closed window is just rude, my grandpappy always used the unlocked one out of respect for the homeowner. Black bears can run 30 miles an hour and rip a car door clean off, so maybe invest in steel shutters next time, friend.” — Skeeter, Rocky Mountain marmot
