A moose of what witnesses describe as gigantic proportions was filmed casually walking through the city of Gardner, Massachusetts, as though he owned a parking permit there.

Video obtained by boston25news.com shows the animal moving through city streets, drawing the kind of attention usually reserved for a minor celebrity or a fire truck with its lights on. No further incident was reported.

This desk would like to note, for the record, that a moose ambling through a New England town is not inherently news so much as it is an annual tradition, like foliage or complaints about foliage. What makes this one notable is simply that someone had a camera ready.

I reached Chowder, a deer who grazes the same general corridor and has, by his own account, personally watched this moose's commute before. His read on the animal's motives differs somewhat from the panicked tone of the video captions.

The moose has since moved on, presumably toward whatever wooded destination was on his itinerary all along. No arrests, moose or otherwise, were made.

“That's not news, that's Tuesday — moose walk through Gardner more than the mailman does. Folks act shocked but a bull moose eats sixty pounds of plants a day, so of course he's out shopping; the least the town could do is put in a loyalty program.” — Chowder, local deer
