Kolsay Lakes' Newest Camera-Ready Local Is a Bear

A brown bear ambled into frame at Kazakhstan's Kolsay Lakes National Park this week, proving once again that the world's best wildlife photography requires zero cooperation from the subject.
Park cameras captured the animal moving through the reserve, according to qazinform.com, in footage now circulating among regional outlets. No injuries or incidents were reported, and park officials appear to be treating the sighting as routine mountain business.
Brown bears turning up on camera has become such a reliable genre of news that this reporter suspects the bears themselves have started angling for better lighting. The Kolsay Lakes footage joins a long and distinguished catalog of bears simply existing in front of cameras and receiving international attention for it.
For a mountainside perspective, this desk consulted Timka, a Kolsay ibex who grazes the slopes above the lake trail. His read on the bear's cameo differs from the tourists' excited reaction.
Park officials have not indicated whether the bear will return for an encore, though at this rate it may need its own trail-cam agent. Spun and done.
“That bear's been coming through since spring, same route, same unbothered face. Everyone acts shocked, but the real story is the humans setting up cameras every ten meters like we don't already know they're there — rule of the mountain, walk slow, look confident, and nobody follows you home.” — Timka, Kolsay ibex
