The Adirondacks' Busiest Trail Cam Just Got Busier

A trail camera stationed somewhere in the Adirondack backcountry accomplished something Albany's transportation department can only dream of: getting two massive parties to show up at the exact same spot, on schedule, without a single permit hearing.

According to WIBX 950, the camera recorded 'Two Big Visitors' passing through the same patch of forest, in what local outlets are treating as the wildlife event of the week. The station's report does not specify species, leaving observers to speculate along the usual Adirondack suspects — moose, bear, or something considerably less patient.

This reporter has covered enough trail-cam dispatches to recognize a pattern: something big shows up, something else big shows up, and by Tuesday a chamber of commerce is selling T-shirts. The footage has reportedly already achieved local celebrity status, which in the Adirondacks requires only four legs and decent lighting.

For an eyewitness account of the forest's current foot traffic, this desk reached out to Colette, an Adirondack beaver who works the waterway adjacent to the camera in question. Her assessment of the scene differs sharply from the station's tidy two-visitor tally.

Wildlife officials have not commented on whether the two visitors coordinated schedules, and this reporter suspects no comment is forthcoming, since neither party filed the appropriate paperwork. Spun and done.

“Two? Try six, easy, and that's just the ones who used the front trail. I've rebuilt that dam three times this month because something enormous keeps wading through my work without so much as an apology — rule of the woods, whoever's bigger gets the right of way, which is why I mostly work nights now.” — Colette, Adirondack beaver
