Bear Reviews Local Traffic Patterns, Finds Them Lacking

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at KHOU

A bear delivered what this reporter can only describe as an unsolicited crash-test rating for a parked sedan this week, slamming into the vehicle while her cub scurried across the road behind her, according to video obtained by KHOU.

The footage shows the collision happening in the span of a few seconds, with the cub apparently using the chaos as cover to reach the other side unbothered. No injuries to bear, cub, or vehicle have been confirmed, though the car's alignment has not commented.

This column has covered a great many bears breaking into things this year — garages, fire stations, a bakery booth — but never before a bear breaking a car, which represents, in this reporter's professional opinion, a troubling escalation in scope.

Dale, a local white-tailed buck who has crossed that same stretch of road more times than he'd like to admit, offered his take on the incident as an eyewitness to the general vibe of the area's traffic situation.

Their account of events differs from the official record.

Insurance adjusters nationwide are advised to add a new category to their claim forms. This reporter suggests 'Act of Bear.'

“That's not road rage, that's parenting — I've body-checked a mailbox doing the same thing for my fawns. Humans build roads right through everybody's commute and then act surprised when somebody's bumper gets involved.” — Dale, local buck
