New York's Latest It-Birds Didn't Even Need an Agent

New York City has found a new obsession, and for once it isn't a rat: a pair of rare barn owls nesting within city limits has drawn crowds of photographers and birdwatchers hoping for a glimpse.
Per Digital Camera World, the owls' unusual urban nesting spot has turned into something of a pilgrimage site for the city's camera-toting bird community, lenses and all.
The owls did not apply for celebrity status, fill out paperwork, or hire representation, and yet here we are. That is, this reporter notes, a very New York outcome.
For the view from street level, this column consulted Reggie, a Rooftop Pigeon with decades of seniority on these blocks and considerably less fanfare. His assessment of the new arrivals' sudden fame was candid, to put it mildly.
A merchandise table seems inevitable at this point. The owls, notably, have not been consulted on branding.
“Forty years I've worked this block and two owls show up for one season and suddenly it's a whole event. Barn owls hunt by sound alone, they don't even need to see you, so maybe show some respect and stop pointing your lenses at their good side.” — Reggie the Rooftop Pigeon
