A Calgary office worker's Monday took a turn into cryptid folklore this week when a full-grown moose walked into their office building, and no, it was not a team-building exercise gone feral. According to CTV News, at least one witness assumed the animal was an elaborate prank before realizing the thing chewing on the lobby plants was, in fact, a moose.

Details remain scarce on how the animal gained entry, though this reporter notes that moose are not generally known for using door handles, which suggests human error, a propped-open door, or an unusually resourceful ungulate. Staff were evacuated without incident while the moose conducted what can only be described as an unscheduled facilities inspection.

This marks a notable Alberta wildlife incursion into a man-made structure, and frankly the moose has yet to explain its motive. In this reporter's experience covering break-ins, the suspect rarely leaves a note, and ungulates are notoriously uncooperative interview subjects.

Fenwick, a Calgary-area beaver who claims to have observed the scene from a nearby drainage ditch, offered this outlet an eyewitness account that diverges sharply from the official record.

Calgary officials have not said whether the moose will face any charges, trespassing or otherwise. This reporter suspects the office in question will be adding 'moose-proof' to its lease renewal checklist. Spun and done.

“That's Gerald, he's been eyeing that building since they put a vending machine by the window. Folks leave their doors propped for 'ventilation' and then act shocked when a six-hundred-pound animal takes that as an invitation — a bull moose can run thirty-five miles an hour, so maybe invest in a doorbell.” — Fenwick, Calgary-area beaver
