Gatorland Reports One Fewer Gator, Zero Explanations Needed

A Florida alligator was filmed eating a smaller alligator at Gatorland, an event that will surprise exactly no one who has spent time near either alligators or Florida.
Video of the incident shows the larger animal consuming the smaller one, consistent with established alligator social etiquette, which is to say there isn't any. Park officials have not indicated the eaten gator will be missed on the group photo.
Webster notes that cannibalism among alligators, while alarming to onlookers, is a documented and unremarkable part of the species' repertoire — this column simply files it because the footage exists and the public, apparently, cannot look away.
Seeking a knowledgeable local voice, this reporter consulted Skinny Pete, a heron who has spent years working the same pond and watching the food chain operate in real time. His testimony offers a bird's-eye view of gator politics.
Gatorland has not announced plans to adjust seating arrangements. Spun and done.
“I've nested over that pond for six seasons and let me tell you, professional courtesy among gators does not exist. Smaller gator should've known the pecking order, because in that pond it's eat or get eaten, usually both in the same afternoon.” — Skinny Pete, Gatorland heron
