A mother bear broke multiple car windows at a Boreas Pass campsite in Colorado and made off with several backpacks, an operation this column can only describe as efficient.

Reports indicate the bear targeted vehicles directly, breaking windows to access the backpacks inside, with no injuries reported among the humans whose property was, let's say, aggressively redistributed.

Webster notes this is at minimum the dozenth bear-versus-vehicle incident on file this season alone, and respectfully suggests Colorado consider bear-proof luggage racks before the insurance industry stages an intervention.

For eyewitness color, this reporter reached Rockslide, a Boreas Pass pika who has a front-row view of the parking area from a nearby rock pile. Their account of the sow's method adds useful operational detail to the official report.

Campers are reminded that a locked car is, at best, a polite suggestion to a sufficiently motivated bear. Spun and done.

“I've watched that sow work a parking lot like she owns a timeshare up here. She's got cubs to feed, and honestly a sealed backpack with trail mix inside is basically a vending machine with poor security.” — Rockslide, Boreas Pass pika
