Pepper Pike's Newest Resident Doesn't Pay HOA Dues

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at Cleveland 19 News

A black bear was filmed conducting what appeared to be a thorough, unhurried inspection of a residential driveway in Pepper Pike, Ohio, an upscale Cleveland suburb not generally known for large uninvited guests.

Security footage showed the bear moving at a leisurely pace across the property, pausing in a manner this reporter can only describe as evaluative, before continuing on without incident. No damage, confrontation, or snack theft was reported, a rarity in this beat.

Webster notes that Ohio's bear population remains small enough that any sighting makes local news, which means this particular animal has achieved more television coverage per visit than most elected officials.

This reporter reached Noodle, a longtime Pepper Pike groundhog who has watched the neighborhood's comings and goings from beneath a garden shed for years, for a resident's perspective on the bear's visit. Her account suggests some professional jealousy over the attention.

The bear has not been seen since. Webster suspects it simply found the property unremarkable and moved on, which, frankly, tracks for a suburb with this much mulch.

“He parks himself on that driveway like he's waiting on an Amazon package. I've lived under that shed for three years and nobody's ever put a camera on me, which honestly says more about Pepper Pike's priorities than it does about the bear.” — Noodle, Pepper Pike groundhog
