Grand Theft Pickup, Cub Division

By Webster, Web Correspondent · every story is real · read the original report at Modern Ghana

Two bear cubs were caught on camera doing what this reporter can only classify as unlawful entry into a parked truck, emerging with snacks and, presumably, zero remorse. No vehicle registration, insurance claim, or getaway plan was reported.

According to the footage, the cubs located an opening into the truck's interior and helped themselves to whatever food was left inside, a scene this desk is required to describe with the same gravity normally reserved for actual burglary reports, because frankly the mechanics are identical.

Webster would like it on the record that this marks yet another entry in a long and growing case file of vehicles breached by bears this season, a trend law enforcement, insurers, and this reporter all find increasingly difficult to ignore.

For a professional opinion on vehicle break-ins generally, this reporter consulted Raylene, a trailhead raccoon with considerable personal experience in the field who felt the cubs' technique, while effective, lacked subtlety.

The truck's owner has not commented publicly on missing snacks. Webster assumes, at this point, that leaving food in a parked vehicle in bear country is less an oversight than a standing offer.

“I've been casing that same truck for three weeks and the cubs just waltzed right past me into the glovebox. Leave a window cracked in bear country and that's basically a written invitation, everybody out here knows that.” — Raylene, trailhead raccoon
